A little extra effort

I recently read an interesting little book called 212 The Extra Degree: Extraordinary Results Begin with One Small Change by Sam Parker and Mac Anderson. I was attracted to the book by a statement on the back cover: “At 211°, water is hot. At 212°, it boils. And with boiling water, comes steam. And steam can power a locomotive.”

The book reminds its reader that real success comes from one aspect – effort. Put forth the effort, and you’ll do well. Put forth a little extra effort and enjoy even greater success. This truth applies in every aspect of our lives.

Do you want a better marriage or relationships with your children? Put forth 212° of effort and see what a difference it makes. Do you want to improve your personal finances? Put forth 212° effort into paying off credit and putting money into savings and investments. Do you want to advance in your career? Put forth 212° effort into what you do. Do you want to enjoy better health? Put forth 212° effort into eating better and getting more exercise. Do you want to make better grades in school? Put forth 212° effort into your studies.

Do you get the picture? 211° is real hot, but with only one degree more you can achieve extraordinary results. Many of us are willing to do a lot, but we often stop just before realizing the breakthrough we are seeking. Make that extra effort. It will be worth it!

When I said this was a little book, it is. I think it took me about an hour to read it, but it was time well spent. It’s a great reminder that the level of success we can attain is really up to us.
